Websites for UK businesses
Web Development forUK Businesses
We build company sites, ecommerce stores and customer portals for UK businesses: WCAG 2.2 accessibility, PECR-aware cookie consent, UK payment methods, and technical SEO, delivered by a team in Greater Noida with code in your name.
- Built to WCAG 2.2 for Equality Act duties
- Cookie consent that matches ICO guidance
- Stripe, GoCardless and Shopify integrations
- You own the code, hosting and domain
If you are searching for a web development company in the UK and want a site that loads quickly, is accessible and ranks without a London agency price, we build websites from Greater Noida, India, and hand over everything: the code, the hosting account and the domain. This page explains the UK-specific parts of a good website project.
For the general service description, see website development. To compare with other services, visit the UK overview.
What kind of site do you need?
- Brochure and lead-generation sites: service pages, case studies, blog and enquiry forms, built to be fast and easy to edit.
- Ecommerce: Shopify or a custom build, with VAT-inclusive pricing, delivery rules and returns.
- Customer portals: logins, orders, documents and invoices behind your site.
- Web apps: dashboards, booking systems and calculators.
- Marketplace sites: multiple sellers with commission rules. Our MultiVendorOS case study is a Shopify app that splits orders across suppliers, and storeVero is a store builder with themes on one shared core. Both were built for Indian merchants; they illustrate our work, not UK stores.
Platform choice: Shopify, WordPress or custom code
Pick the least complicated tool that does the job.
- Shopify suits most product stores: hosting, checkout and PCI scope are handled, apps fill gaps. You pay monthly fees and transaction costs.
- WordPress suits content-led sites with editors who need familiar tools. Plugins need updating, so maintenance matters.
- Next.js or custom builds suit portals, complex logic and sites where speed and design control matter most. They need developers for changes.
We tell you which fits during scoping, even if that is not the most complex option.
UK-specific requirements
Cookies and PECR
Cookies and similar technologies on your site are governed by PECR and, where personal data is involved, UK GDPR. The ICO's guidance on storage and access technologies explains when consent is required. Its earlier cookie guidance said analytics cookies do not fall within the strictly necessary exemption, and the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 has introduced some changes, so confirm the current position with your adviser; see the Act on legislation.gov.uk. We build a consent banner that offers a clear refusal choice, loads tags only after consent where required, and stores the choice.
Privacy notice and forms
Forms collect personal data, so the page needs a privacy notice that states what you collect, why and how long you keep it. The ICO's UK GDPR guidance covers transparency. We keep forms to the fields you need, store submissions securely and add retention rules.
Accessibility
The Equality Act 2010 requires service providers to avoid putting disabled people at a disadvantage; the government's Equality Act guidance explains the duty. WCAG 2.2 is the technical standard we build to: keyboard access, colour contrast, visible focus, form labels and error messages, and screen-reader checks on key journeys. Accessibility testing needs real tools and manual passes; we do not claim a site meets every criterion without testing.
Payments, VAT and shipping
For UK checkout we integrate Stripe for cards and wallets, GoCardless for direct debit, and Open Banking payments through a regulated provider (Open Banking). Prices are shown VAT-inclusive for consumers, with VAT-exclusive options for trade accounts if you need them. If you are VAT-registered, your sales feed accounting records that HMRC's Making Tax Digital for VAT rules expect to be digital; we sync orders to Xero, Sage or QuickBooks.
Data in India
Developer access to live customer data is a restricted transfer. See the ICO's international transfers guide. We test with sample data and host in a UK or EU region on an account you own.
Performance and search visibility
A site that loads slowly loses visitors and rankings. We build for fast loading: optimised images, minimal scripts, server rendering where useful and clean markup. For search we set up page titles, headings, structured data, sitemaps, redirects from the old site and Search Console. We do not promise rankings. Content and links matter as much as the build.
Process and timeline
- Discovery and sitemap (1–2 weeks): goals, audience, page list and content plan.
- Design (2–3 weeks): layouts for key pages on mobile and desktop for your sign-off.
- Build (4–8 weeks for a brochure or small store; longer for portals): staging site with a demo every two weeks.
- Launch: redirects, analytics, consent banner, accessibility checks and handover.
Content from you is the usual cause of delay, so we agree who writes what at the start.
Working with a team in India
India is UTC+5:30 all year, 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of the UK on GMT (from 25 October 2026) and 4 hours 30 minutes on BST. Review calls happen in the UK morning, our afternoon. You comment directly on the staging site and track tasks on a shared board.
Engagement and pricing
A fixed quote after scoping suits most websites; a monthly retainer suits ongoing improvements, SEO and maintenance. We do not publish GBP prices, since cost depends on pages, features and integrations.
Risks and checks
- Lock-in: domain, hosting and repository in your name.
- Maintenance: agree who applies updates and security patches.
- Content: assign a content owner early.
- Legal copy: privacy, cookie and terms pages should be reviewed by your adviser.
What you receive at handover
- Source code or theme files in a repository under your organisation.
- Hosting, domain, analytics and Search Console accounts in your name.
- A content guide showing how to edit pages, add products and publish posts.
- A redirect map and launch checklist, so search traffic from an old site is preserved.
- A short accessibility report listing what was tested and any known issues.
Questions marketing and ecommerce managers ask
Marketing managers often ask whether they can edit content without developers. For WordPress and Shopify that is standard; for custom builds we add a content management layer where editors need it. Ecommerce managers ask about speed on mobile phones, since most UK shopping traffic is on them; we test real pages on mid-range devices, not only desktop browsers.

Read the case studyWe build to WCAG 2.2 with keyboard access, contrast, visible focus, labelled forms and screen-reader testing on key journeys. Automated tools find only part of the issues, so we also test manually, and we do not claim conformance without testing. This supports your Equality Act duties.
We add a consent banner with an equal refusal option, hold non-essential tags until consent where required, and store the choice. The ICO guidance and the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 have changed some details, so confirm the current rules with your adviser.
Shopify suits most product stores, WordPress suits content-led sites with non-technical editors, and a custom Next.js build suits portals and complex logic. We recommend the simplest platform that does the job, and explain the monthly cost and maintenance of each.
A brochure site or small store often takes about 8–12 weeks from discovery to launch, with a staging demo every two weeks. Portals and custom features take longer. The main delay is usually content, so we agree responsibilities at the start.
Yes. We integrate Stripe for cards and wallets, GoCardless for direct debit, and regulated Open Banking providers for account-to-account payments. Orders can sync to Xero, Sage or QuickBooks so VAT records are kept digitally.
