How to use
Type the amount in rupees. Paise are allowed, so you can check an exact bill.
Tap a rate chip, or type a different rate in the box below the chips if your item has its own notified rate.
Choose "Before GST" when your price excludes tax, or "Including GST" when the figure already has tax in it.
Choose "Within the state" for a sale to a buyer in your own state, or "To another state" for an inter-state sale.
Read the result, compare the same amount across every rate in the table, then copy it or share it on WhatsApp.
GST 2.0 came into force on 22 September 2025. It left two general slabs, 5% and 18%, plus a 40% rate for a short list of items such as sugared drinks, larger cars and motorcycles above 350cc. The 12% and 28% slabs were removed on that date, and most items in them moved to 5% or 18%.
Two special rates remain for precious goods: 3% for gold, silver and jewellery, and 0.25% for rough diamonds. Many items, such as fresh produce, milk and some breads, carry no GST at all.
The rate chips come from settings we keep updated, and the date under the result shows when they were last checked. If your item falls under a notified rate that is not shown, type it in the box. When you are unsure which rate applies, look up the HSN or SAC code first and confirm the rate with your CA.
When the amount is before GST, the tax is the amount times the rate. At 18%, ₹10,000 carries ₹1,800 of GST, so the buyer pays ₹11,800.
When the amount already includes GST, the calculator works backwards. It divides the amount by one plus the rate to find the base, and the rest is tax. At 18%, ₹11,800 splits into a base of ₹10,000 and GST of ₹1,800.
A common mistake is to take 18% of the inclusive price. That gives ₹2,124 on ₹11,800, which is wrong, because the 18% applies to the base, not to the total. The "Including GST" option avoids this error.
For a sale to a buyer in your own state, the GST is split in half. One half is central tax (CGST) and the other half is state tax (SGST, or UTGST in a union territory). At 18%, that is 9% CGST and 9% SGST.
For a sale to a buyer in another state, the whole tax is charged as integrated tax (IGST). At 18%, the invoice shows 18% IGST. The total tax is the same either way; only the split on the invoice changes.
The place of supply decides which split applies, and for services it does not always match the buyer’s billing address. When in doubt, ask your CA how a specific transaction should be billed.
A calculator is fine for a quote or a one-off check. If you raise many invoices, a billing system that stores the HSN code and rate against each item applies them on every bill, keeps the CGST, SGST and IGST split right, and gives your accountant the data for returns without retyping.
FAQ
No. Under GST 2.0, the 12% and 28% slabs were removed on 22 September 2025. The general slabs are now 5% and 18%, with 40% for a short list of items, and special rates of 3% and 0.25% for precious goods.
Choose "Including GST". The calculator divides the amount by one plus the rate, so ₹11,800 at 18% becomes a base of ₹10,000 and GST of ₹1,800. Do not take 18% of the inclusive amount.
Charge CGST and SGST when the supply is within your state, and IGST when it goes to another state. The place of supply rules decide this, so check unusual cases, such as services to buyers in other states, with your CA.
The rate depends on the HSN code for goods or the SAC code for services. Use our HSN and SAC code finder to look up the code, then confirm the current rate on the CBIC site or with your CA.
Yes. Type any rate in the box below the chips. This helps for notified special rates. The result and the share text use whatever rate you enter.
The calculator shows amounts to the paisa. Your invoice may round each line or the total to the nearest rupee, so the final bill can differ by a few paise.
