MobileFlutter, React Native, Native

The mobile stack we reach for, the trade-offs we name, and when we use something else — Flutter for the cross-platform with a single codebase, React Native for the team that is already strong in JavaScript, native (Swift, Kotlin) for the platform-specific UI and the deep platform integration.

What we use it for

Flutter for the cross-platform with a single codebase and a consistent design. React Native for the team that is already strong in JavaScript and the product is close to a web app in shape. Native (Swift for iOS, Kotlin for Android) for the platform-specific UI, the deep platform integration and the long-term platform-led roadmap.

We extend the stack with the platform integrations the product needs — Firebase, RevenueCat, Sentry, the platform-specific libraries. The choice is made against the team, the product and the platform integration.

When we choose it over the alternative

Flutter is right when the design is consistent across iOS and Android, the team can commit to Dart, and the platform integrations are well-covered by the existing plugins. React Native is right when the team is already strong in React and the product is close to a web app. Native is right when the product needs deep platform integration or a platform-specific UI.

The right answer depends on the team, the product and the platform integration. We will say so on the call, with a written rationale for the choice and the trade-offs named.

When we do not choose it

We do not choose Flutter when the product needs a platform-specific UI that the framework cannot deliver, or when the team is not comfortable with Dart. We do not choose React Native when the product needs deep platform integration that the bridge makes expensive. We do not choose native when the team cannot sustain two codebases.

We also do not choose the default when the platform constraint (a specific OS version, a specific device) makes the alternative the right answer. The default is the right answer for the team that can run it, not for the team that has to learn it on the way.

Frequently asked

The questions the team asks

Flutter or React Native?
It depends on the team and the product. Flutter is right when the design is consistent across both platforms and the team can commit to Dart. React Native is right when the team is already strong in React and the product is close to a web app. We will say so on the call.
When is native the right answer?
When the product needs deep platform integration (widgets, App Intents, AR, low-level APIs), a platform-specific UI, or a long-term platform-led roadmap. The cost is two codebases and two teams, and the benefit is the platform work the framework cannot deliver.
How do you handle the App Store and Play Store?
The full submission process — metadata, screenshots, review notes, privacy details, the binary upload and the review process. The first submission is the slowest, and we handle the back-and-forth and ship once approved.
