1. Project Overview
Booking a repair at home in a smaller Indian city usually means a phone call, a vague quote and a price that grows at the door. Service professionals, for their part, get paid late and lose jobs to whoever answers first.
UrbanSetu puts the whole job on record. The customer books a service, a professional accepts it, both sides confirm the visit with OTPs, and any extra work found on site needs the customer’s approval before it changes the bill. The launch covers Greater Noida, Noida, Lucknow and Varanasi.

2. The Challenge
- Prices that differ by city for the same service.
- Jobs marked done without the customer agreeing the work happened.
- Extra work found mid-job and settled in cash outside the platform.
- Customers who want a pro for an hour, not for one named task.

3. What We Built
- A catalogue with category filters and search, service pages and booking by address and slot.
- City-wise pricing, with a national base price as the fallback.
- Two OTPs per job: one to start, one to complete.
- Extra-work approval: the pro quotes parts and labour from the rate card, and nothing moves the total until the customer approves.
- Help by the hour in 30, 60, 90 and 120 minute blocks with a chore checklist.
- Instant help for same-day work, with up to five jobs in one visit, one priority fee and one arrival OTP.
- A waiting list that records demand for services with no pro yet, so recruitment follows real requests.
4. How It Works
The platform runs on Laravel 12 with Blade for the website and a Flutter app for Android. One service class owns every money calculation: commission, visit fee, GST and payout. The invariant it enforces: commission plus provider earning always equals the job amount.
The app splits at login. A customer lands on booking screens; a service professional lands on a jobs feed where they go on duty, accept work, mark on the way and reached, start with the OTP, quote extra work and finish with the second OTP. An earnings tab updates as soon as a job closes.
In August 2026 the full suite ran 201 tests across 13 suites with no failures.
5. The Outcome
UrbanSetu runs live at urbansetu.in. The launch footprint covers four cities in Uttar Pradesh: Greater Noida, Noida, Lucknow and Varanasi. Other cities stay switched off rather than deleted, so one setting brings each back.
The Flutter app reached version 8.1.0 with the customer booking journey and the full provider side in one install. The provider side passed 48 live checks with no failures before release.
