Cloud PlatformsAWS, GCP, Azure
The cloud stack we reach for, the trade-offs we name, and when we use something else — AWS as the default, GCP for the data and the AI, Azure for the Microsoft ecosystem, with the choice made against the workload, the team and the compliance posture.
What we use it for
AWS as the default — the broadest set of services, the most engineers who know it, the best fit for most products. GCP for the data, the AI and the Kubernetes-native workloads. Azure for the Microsoft ecosystem (Active Directory, Office 365, .NET). DigitalOcean for the simple deploy.
We extend the stack with the managed services the product needs — RDS, Cloud SQL or Azure Database for the relational database, S3 or GCS for the storage, CloudFront or Cloud CDN for the edge.
When we choose it over the alternative
AWS is right when the workload is broad, the team is familiar with the services, and the compliance posture is well-known. GCP is right when the workload is data-heavy, the team is comfortable with BigQuery or Vertex AI, and the Kubernetes-native story is a leverage point. Azure is right when the team is in the Microsoft ecosystem and the AD/Office 365 integration is a leverage point.
The right answer depends on the workload, the team and the compliance posture. We will say so on the call, with a written rationale for the choice and the trade-offs named.
When we do not choose it
We do not choose a cloud when the deploy constraint (on-premise, air-gapped, specific region) makes the cloud the wrong answer. We do not choose AWS when the workload is data-heavy and the team is already strong in GCP. We do not choose the default when the cost (egress, managed service pricing) makes the alternative the right answer.
Frequently asked
The questions the team asks
- AWS, GCP or Azure?
- It depends on the workload, the team and the compliance posture. AWS is the default for most products, GCP for data/AI, Azure for the Microsoft ecosystem. The choice is made against the requirements, not the trend.
- Can the system run on-premise?
- Yes, when the data posture requires it. The application can run on cloud, on-premise or hybrid, with the deployment model agreed in the discovery. The same code base, with the configuration that fits your infrastructure and your security review.
- How do you keep the cloud bill honest?
- Right-sizing against the actual usage, reserved capacity for predictable workloads, spot instances where it fits, lifecycle policies for storage, and a monthly review against the bill. The dashboards show where the money is going, and the guardrails alert before the bill spikes.
